This page presents some of the ecosystem tools that can be useful when configuring and running images.
Virtual machines running on in clouds are based on virtual machine images. Typically, a cloud will provide a selection of virtual machine images that can be modified by users. However, this is a complicated task that is best automated, especially when using multiple clouds.
A virtual machine image is a good start, but users typically are interested in more sophisticated constructs such as virtual clusters or simply virtual machines that join an existing security or configuration context. Various configuration and contextualization tools help automate that.
Deploying one virtual machine is easy but how do you handle deployments consisting of many interdependent virtual machines, deployments that need to cover multiple different clouds, or scale automatically?
